As someone who has always been fascinated by the art of home brewing, I can tell you that there’s nothing quite like the ritual of crafting your own perfect cup of tea. That is, until I discovered the magic of cold brew tea. Unlike the sun tea method, which relies on the heat of the sun to extract the flavors, cold brew takes place entirely in the refrigerator. It’s the same principle that makes cold brew coffee so delightful – the lack of heat results in a flavor profile that’s wholly unique and much more palatable for slow summer sipping.

All you need to do is combine loose-leaf tea or whole tea bags with cool water in a pitcher, let it steep for 6 to 12 hours in the fridge, and then strain out the leaves. Of course, as with any DIY endeavor, there are a few tips and tricks to keep in mind. Bon Appétit suggests that loose-leaf tea generally yields the best results, as the leaves have more room to fully infuse the water. But if you’re feeling a bit lazier, you can absolutely use whole tea bags and still end up with a delightful cold brew.

Another option is to steep your loose-leaf tea in a clean French press. Just let it infuse, then press down the filter to remove those pesky leaves before pouring. Easy peasy!
